How you apply your make up can make or break your appearance. Over applied make up is embarrassing, and too little make up on an event that requires it is equally embarrassing. As such, it is important that you know the right techniques and the proper make up application methods to fully bring out the benefits make up can give you.
The first thing you have to know in applying make up is that make up is a lot like clothes—you need to choose the right shades, colors, and textures that will match your features. For example, if you have a darker skin color, you need to choose lighter make up shades to properly highlight your features. If you have a lighter skin color, dark make up, such as bronze and browns, can highlight and add color to your face.
Once you are done with that and already have your make up set, you need to know the proper sequence of applying your make up. The foundation is the first thing you have to apply. Follow this with the application of concealers, if you need it. Blend the concealer and the foundation by doing gentle strokes using your fingertips or a sponge. Make sure that the foundation evenly covers your forehead hairlines, the sides of your face, and your neck area. The perfect foundation shade is usually a shade lighter than your skin complexion.
After the foundation has set, you can then apply the blush or cheek rouge. The shade of the blush you choose should complement your skin, and is appropriate for the occasion. Apply the blush from your cheeks upwards towards your temple by doing light and smooth brush strokes. Apply blush very lightly on your forehead and the chin to enhance the shape of your face.
To set the foundation and the blush, you can then use a face or pressed powder. Apply the powder using the puff by pressing with ample pressure on your face. Do not massage it over as it will smudge your make up; do little dabs instead.
If you have skin problems, or want to avoid getting them, you should use non-comedogenic make up. This will not clog your pores, thus it will not cause skin break outs. You can also try mineral make up, which is formulated to work with sensitive, acne or problem prone skin.
Follow these make up application tips and you will never be lost in the wonderful world of cosmetics ever again.
